It is the most wonderful time of the year. After a busy first session in the United States Congress, I look forward to celebrating Christmas with family in Oklahoma City and using this as a time to reset and focus on the importance of this day.

In politics, it can be easy to get wrapped up in the commotion of partisan divides, policy disagreements, and debates on the House floor, but when it comes down to it, what matters most is that we are all here to serve the people of our great nation. Day in and day out, we are fighting for the needs of our constituents. Despite our political differences in Congress, the widespread celebration of Christmas, especially seen through the amazing decorations throughout our nation’s capital, serves as a reminder that we all have more in common than it may appear.

Similar is true for our fellow Americans. Although we are all guilty of getting caught in the chaos of the holiday season through last-minute shopping and crowded airports, it should serve as a time to put things into perspective and appreciate what truly matters most.

The birth of Jesus Christ our Savior is unifying. God sent his only son to pay the price for our sins. Seen through His selflessness, as well as Jesus’s relentless generosity and outpouring of love while he was here on Earth, this special day emphasizes the importance of giving, even without receiving in return.

This time of year is joyous for many, but can be painful for some. Through all the presents, meals, and celebrations, we must remember the true meaning of Christmas, and acknowledge and pray for those who are less fortunate or those missing loved ones.

I am grateful to be pursuing one of the greatest gifts I could ask for, which is to be of service to my fellow Oklahomans. I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season.
