Oklahoma state Rep. Charlie Joyner announces he will not seek re-election in 2015

State Rep. Charlie Joyner announced today that he will not seek re-election in 2016. Joyner is currently serving his fifth term in the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
The Republican lawmaker cited a desire to spend more time with his wife, Gwen, and family as the reason behind his decision.
“It has been an honor to represent the people of House District 95,” said Joyner, R-Midwest City. “I’m really grateful for the trust voters have placed in me over the years, but it’s time for new leadership in the Legislature.”
Joyner’s years in the House cap four decades of public service. He began a 22-year career with the Midwest City Fire Department as a firefighter and rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief. Following his retirement from the fire department he was twice elected to the Midwest City Council and served as the city’s Vice-Mayor.
Joyner first won election to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 2006 and has been re-elected four times. He currently serves as chairman of the House Transportation Committee. He will continue to represent District 95 during the upcoming legislative session.
During his time in the Legislature, Joyner has been especially focused on transportation issues.
“We have tried to lay the groundwork to modernize transportation in Oklahoma,” said Joyner. “I’m proud of our work on that issue, but I’m also proud of the work done on issues like tort reform, enforcement of immigration laws and reductions in state taxes. I appreciate the chance voters have given me to be a part of making some real progress in Oklahoma.”
