Oklahoma City GRIDIRON moves to UCO’s Mitchell Hall June 4, 5, 6

The Oklahoma City Gridiron Club’s annual political satire show, is moving to UCO’s Mitchell Hall in Edmond June 4-5-6.
The show, where members of the club take on roles of national, state and local politicians and other personalities, is the club’s main fundraiser for journalism scholarships.
“The Gridiron has been delighting Oklahoma audiences with an irreverent and satirical review of current events, pop culture, scandals and the general silliness of Oklahoma and national politics,” said club president, Dr. Terry M. Clark, UCO professor.
“We’re excited and proud to come to UCO during its 125th year,” Clark said. “Club members also believed linking with the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame on the UCO campus was significant.”
Characters featured in skits and song this year include Gov. Mary Fallin, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Bill O’Reilly, Brian Williams, the Oklahoma congressional delegation, Sally Kern, Bob Stoops and Mike Gundy, as well as comments and songs on fracking, global warming and more.
“Tickets are available now on our website,” Dr. Clark said. “Mitchell Hall’s seating will give you an almost front row seat for humor and fun.” The Gridiron Club was founded in 1928 with the sole purpose of promoting and encouraging quality journalism in Oklahoma. Well, a related purpose was to have a lot of fun in the process!
Club memberfs administer the Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation Scholarship program where college students from across Oklahoma receive valuable financial assistance for the pursuit of degrees in journalism and communications-related degrees.
The club was attracted to UCO from downtown OKC because of the quality of the venue, plenty of parking, and the cooperation of UCO’s staff, Clark said.
The club has raised about $500,000 in scholarships in the past three decades. The three performances at Mitchell Hall at 7:30 pm each evening will help continue that effort.
Qualifying applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university in Oklahoma. Outgoing high school seniors are also encouraged to apply prior to their freshman year of college. The Oklahoma City Gridiron Foundation is recognized as 501c(3) corporation by the IRS.
Over the years, the show has called numerous venues home, including the original Skirvin Hotel, Lincoln Plaza and Stage Center…all of which closed shortly after the show moved to a new location. Club members are sure that won’t be the case with Mitchell Hall, Clark said.
