Oklahoma activists mark World Day Against the Death Penalty

Cece Jones Davis of the Julius Jones Coalition, allied with Witness to Innocence, planned state Capitol events for Monday (October 10) in Oklahoma City. The activity comes on the Twentieth World Day Against the Death Penalty.

The group planned to deliver a petition opposing capital punishment to the office of Governor Kevin Stitt. Antoinette Jones and Herman Lindsey were scheduled to hold a brief press conference after that.

Rev. Don Health, chairman of the Oklahoma Coalition Against the Death Penalty (OK-CADP) is also expected to speak.

Oklahomans for Grace planned to host an informal meet-an-greet luncheon at Noon. Organizers asked for RSVPs for planning purposes: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdpRkdYzksk7_FM3x_z8ADQUwRIAvQZkiuu_BHCKRvim4Wqpg/viewform

According to the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, the annual event “unifies the global abolitionist movement and mobilizes civil society, political leaders, lawyers, public opinion and more to support the call for universal abolition of capital punishment. The day encourages and consolidates the political and general awareness of the worldwide movement against the death penalty.”
