Oct. 18-22 training: OU plans ‘Resilience Development’ certification

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma is launching a first-of-its-kind Resilience Development Institute – Executive Track for resilience professionals, state officials and community leaders at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Hotel in Oklahoma City on October 18-22, 2015.
Leading industry experts will lead this multi-day inaugural institute and provide up-to-date knowledge needed for a comprehensive understanding of resilience and the tools necessary to succeed in today’s constantly changing environment.
Courses will focus on community disaster resilience, recovery leadership, risk management, as well as funding resilience and recovery programs.
Attendees who successfully complete the institute will receive a certificate as well as continuing education credits.
“Resilience, or lack thereof, has a profound impact on every aspect of a community.
“Proactive comprehensive resilience strategies are critical for a community’s ability to mitigate the impact of disasters or incidents.” said OU ReDI Executive Director Heather Reichert. “Our Institute will provide professionals with not only a solid foundation in resilience strategies, but it will also give the flexibility to develop the specific initiatives to maximize and expand their community’s capabilities.”
OU is the first organization in the world to offer a professional development certification on resilience strategies and tactics for application in the face of disaster. Three progressive levels of certification will be offered in the future.
Emergency managers, city planners, economic developers, elected and state officials, municipal leaders, nonprofits and businesses are encouraged to participate. The registration fee will include course materials for the Executive Track training, keynote speaker, breakfast, lunch, and an evening reception at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel. Registration ends on October 9.
