News Brief: Meacham says short session savings ‘nominal’

At his regularly scheduled press conference updating the Oklahoma finance picture, state Treasurer Scott Meacham said savings achievable from a shortened legislative session would be “nominal.”

After presenting a modestly improved revenue picture in January, Meacham was asked about Sen. Earl Garrison‘s proposal to save money by ending the legislative session eight to 12 weeks early. Meacham estimated savings would amount to only $300,000, and said, “we owe it to the people to do the best we can to make the decisions that need to be made” to balance the budget.

More details on the budget and finance picture for Oklahoma will be provided in an upcoming story.
