Kevin Calvey presses for answers about Mayes ‘Big Red’ car dealer case, then enters Oklahoma County debate with Vicki Behenna

Oklahoma City — Kevin Calvey, Republican candidate for Oklahoma County District Attorney, wants answers after a local television station’s investigative report about the potential murder of two missing Oklahomans.

In a startling development, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has alleged the Democratic candidate for local D.A., Vicki Behenna, knowingly submitted fake documents to the court in the referenced case.

Patrick B. McGuigan of The Oklahoma City Sentinel had surveyed the background of the ‘Big Red’ car dealers case in a September 21 news story.

A press release from the Calvey campaign said the facts, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, are these:

1. Vicki Behenna’s client, Chris Mayes, was convicted in late 2021 of a massive fraud scheme, along with his employee, Courtney Wells.

2. Courtney Wells and her husband have been missing since May 2, 2022, shortly before the high school graduation of Wells’ only daughter.

3. A few days after Wells vanished, Behenna filed a Motion for New Trial for Mayes, based on what the U.S. Attorney’s office says are fake documents Behenna submitted to the court. These fake documents could only be corroborated by Wells if she were not conveniently missing.

4. The U.S. Attorney’s Reply to Behenna points out that Wells had no incentive to go missing, and that the ONLY person who benefits from Wells’ disappearance is Mayes, Behenna’s client. The U.S. Attorney’s Reply implies that Mayes caused Wells’ disappearance.

A story this week on news9, a local television station, laid out some aspects of Wells’ “missing” status — but did not mention that Behenna is part of the Mayes’ defense team.

It is difficult in this age of ubiquitous surveillance cameras for someone to stay missing very long,” Kevin Calvey said.

“Sadly, it seems quite possible that Wells and her husband have been killed. For the sake of the safety of other witnesses in the case, Chris Mayes should be taken into custody, or at least made to wear a titanium ankle monitor. I also think the voters of Oklahoma County deserve the truth regarding what Behenna knew about their disappearance and when she knew it.”

Kevin Calvey and Behenna squared off in a non-televised debate Tuesday, October 11. That event was held at The Auditorium at the Douglass, in northeast Oklahoma City.

The general election will be held November 8, 2022.
