David Holt of Northwest Oklahoma City, an aide to Mayor Mick Cornett, has announced his candidacy to become the next state Senator from the 30th District. The seat is now held by Senate President Pro Temp Glenn Coffee, who is term-limited. The district includes portions of Northwest Oklahoma City, Bethany, Warr Acres and The Village.

In a statement sent to The City Sentinel, Holt said that a “servant’s heart” led him to run. “This corner of the world is a special place,” said Holt. “The values I was blessed with here have stayed with me my entire life, and that’s why my wife and I still call it home. The people of this community have meant so much to me in my life. I am humbled to announce my candidacy as a conservative Republican, with the hope of giving back.”

Holt announced via an online video filmed in front of Wiley Post Elementary School in the 30th District, where Holt attended and where his mother was PTA President.

Holt’s campaign said the video can be viewed at www.votedavidholt.com, along with biographical information about Holt and other information about what he characterized as “a grassroots campaign.”

“In the coming weeks and months,” Holt said, “I’ll be walking the streets of northwest Oklahoma City, Bethany, Warr Acres and the Village, listening to your ideas and humbly asking for your support. I’ll need your help to make sure that our next senator continues to represent our values.”

Raised in Northwest Oklahoma City, Holt attended Putnam City Schools from kindergarten through graduation. The son of a Putnam City teacher, Holt has spent 24 years of his life in Northwest Oklahoma City.

Holt is currently chief of staff to Mayor Mick Cornett, a resident of the 30th District. Holt also served in the Bush White House, for U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, for Lt. Governor Mary Fallin, and several members of Congress from Oklahoma.

He is active in Republican politics. David and his wife Rachel have been married for six years. They met at George Washington University, where David obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Rachel is a prosecutor in Oklahoma County.

The couple attends St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in MidTown.
