Governor Fallin issues first veto – House Bill 1812

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin on Friday, April 15, announced she vetoed legislation increasing the current limit on certain contracts not requiring competitive bidding.  This is the first veto of the governor’s administration.

House Bill 1812 increases the amount from $50,000 to $100,000 for which a right-of-way clearance contract can be let by the Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority without competitive bidding.

“While I understand the Legislature seeking ways for our state agencies to operate more efficiently, the elimination of competitive bids for right-of-way contracts up to $100,000 would not fulfill my goal of bringing more transparency and accountability to state government spending,” Fallin said.  “However, I will continue to work with the bill’s authors to help address their issues.”
