Enns Praised for Work on Health Issues

State Rep. John Enns has been named the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians 2011 Legislator of the Year.

The award was granted “in recognition of outstanding commitment to the betterment of the health of the people of Oklahoma.”

“There’s no doubt that the health challenges facing Oklahoma citizens have resulted in many other problems, including increased state spending on certain programs and a drag on our economy,” said Enns, an Enid Republican.

“I believe that if we can improve our state’s health status, it will also help us attract more employers and reduce the demand for social services, benefiting all Oklahomans. I appreciate the academy’s endorsement of my efforts and am honored by this recognition.”

In recent years Enns led the effort to designate state funding for research into adult stem cell therapies that do not require the destruction of unborn children and have resulted in significant advances. He was also active in efforts this year to provide new funding to stabilize rural hospitals and simultaneously discourage tobacco use through a tobacco tax.
