Educator Dana Orwig is seeking the District 87 state House seat, includes much of near northwest Oklahoma City. The job is now held by Republican Jason Nelson.

Orwig is an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church and is an assistant chaplain for St. John’s Episcopal School. She is the Christian Education Director for St. John’s Episcopal Church.  Dana and her husband Steve have lived in Oklahoma City for more than 30 years and have two adult daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren.

Orwig said, “There are many critical issues facing our community and our state, from education and healthcare, to personal liberty rights and the corrupting influence of corporations and special interest groups on our elected representatives.”

Orwig ran for the seat in 2006 and 2008, with narrow losses in both races.  In the 2008 contest against Nelson, the election was decided by 187 votes.

The Orwig campaign will begin with a “Tea Party” on George Washington’s Birthday, Monday, February 22. Tea, assorted beverages, and a variety of foods will be available to attendees of the event.

“By hosting the event on Washington’s birthday, we hope to emphasize not only the importance of individual liberties, but also the great achievements that our Founding Fathers fought for, and the progress that can be made when we pull together as a community,” Orwig said.
