Birth Choice benefits from ‘birthday party’ for Pam Pollard, Rep. Fallin

By Patrick B. McGuigan

Pam Pollard of Oklahoma City decided to have some fun when she turned 50. Saying she was “officially Over the Hill” at that age (which actually arrived for her back on December 20), Pollard asked her boss, Fifth District U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, to come to a birthday party where the pair could join forces to raise money for Birth Choice of Oklahoma.

Pollard explained her motivation by saying, “What better way to celebrate my life than to help an organization who provides unwed mothers with the opportunity to choose LIFE for their babies.” She described the group as a “lifeline” for women facing unexpected pregnancies.

Birth Choice programs provide assistance that include complete medical services and, for a small number, a place to call home — at the Rose Home in north central Oklahoma City. Doctors who assist women through Birth Choice are all volunteers. Pollard said, “The rest is up to concerned citizens.”

Pollard’s 50th Birthday party was held Friday, January 8, at the Bricktown Ballpark Diamond Lounge. Rep. Fallin, a staunch pro-life advocate who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor this year, was the guest speaker. A special appearance came from Ed Moore and his Prayer Force One bus tour. Former sate Rep. Thad Balkman who helped pass legislation for the “Choose Life” license plates and funding for abortion counseling, supported the event. Cleveland County activist Bobby Cleveland served as auctioneer for the event.

Auction items included an autographed copy of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s “Going Rogue” and the Newt and Calissa Gingrich audio CD, “Rediscovering God in America.”

Attendees included State Reps. Mike Thompson, Ken Miller, Gary Banz, and Sally Kern. Also participating were former state Rep. Kevin  Calvey, County Commissioner Brian Maughan, and Senate District 30 hopefuls David Holt and Shawnessey M. Murphy. GOP Labor Commissioner hopeful Jason Reese, an Oklahoma City attorney, also attended to support the Birth Choice group.
