AOGC endorses Cody Rogers as he seeks win over incumbent in Senate District 37

Cody Rogers, Republican challenger in the Oklahoma Senate District 37 race, has garnered support from the state's general contractor's association.

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors (AOGC), an 85-year-old trade association representing Oklahoma road and bridge builders, announced their endorsement of Cody Rogers for Oklahoma Senate District 37. The group made the announcement early this month.
“We are endorsing Cody Rogers for Senate District 37 given his position and experience as a small business owner of a paving construction company,” AOGC Executive Director Bobby Stem said. “He will be a valuable voice for road and bridge builders for the next four years.”
Rogers started his paving company in 2015 after working in the oil and gas industry where he gained government regulatory experience across several states.
“His agenda, in summary, is to grow Oklahoma’s economy,” Stem continued. “He’s a real-world businessman who understands what it’s going to take to improve the economy and the holds the experience needed to navigate a path to get there.”
AOGC supports the candidacy of small business owners like Rogers, a press release from the association said, “to help Oklahoma’s economy while also improving the state’s road and bridges.” Oklahoma’s general election is November 3.
Rogers aims to replace the Democratic incumbent now in office, state Sen. Allison Ikley-Freeman, who scored a major upset when she won a November 2017 special election to replace Republican Dan Newberry, who resigned.
She now seeks a full four-year term at the state Capitol. Late in this year’s regular session, she was injured in an accident (https://capitolbeatok.worldsecuresystems.com/reports/oklahoma-senate-democratic-leader-kay-floyd-gives-update-on-sen-allison-ikley-freeman). She won her party’s nomination without a challenge.
In office, Sen. Ikley-Freeman has voted on the liberal end of the spectrum, for “progressive” goals, opposing most priorities of the majority Republican caucus. Although Tulsa is trending ‘purple’ (with Democrats enjoying recent electoral successes, as in Oklahoma City), the District tends to support conservative Republicans in partisan elections.
