From Joe Dorman, to readers of CapitolBeatOK:

A friend of mine was critical about all the negativity on social media, so I took on the challenge of posting one positive comment each day on social media.

I end it with the hashtag of #JDThanks365 for each of these daily appreciations.

In December, one of my comments dealt with Patrick B. McGuigan, the Associate Publisher & Executive Editor of this paper, and founder of CapitolBeatOK.com, an online news website.

Pat has done an outstanding job with the OKC Gridiron, which I attended regularly over the past 20 years. Sadly, this program might have conducted their final performance this year, which is devastating for the journalism scholarships provided to aspiring reporters.

People will also remember his name from his work at the Daily Oklahoman. Pat is one of those people with whom I never expected to develop a friendship.

He began covering the capitol beat and we had the opportunity to discuss many important issues. As I got to know him personally, I developed great respect and admiration for his journalistic style and fearlessness to cover important issues.

I am very thankful for not only him, but all the journalists like him, past and present, who never took it easy on me, but also never were unfair.

Long live a strong Fourth Estate!

Sincerely,

Joe Dorman
