Oklahoma state Senate President Pro Tempore-Designate Brian Bingman announced Wednesday (November 10) his selection of Sen. David Myers of Ponca City as the new Chairman of Appropriations.

“We must immediately get to work addressing another challenging budget.  I know that Senator Myers is well prepared and ready to serve as Chairman of Appropriations,” said Bingman, a Sapulpa Republican.

“The reality is spending must be brought in line with revenues.  In a difficult budget year it is increasingly important for state government to prioritize its spending and increase efficiencies so that we can continue to deliver necessary services to Oklahomans at affordable levels,” Bingman said.  “Revenues are down because the private sector economy is down.  Just as families and small businesses have had to cut back and find ways to balance their budgets, so will we in state government.”

Myers currently holds the position of Vice Chairman of Appropriations, and was recently re-elected without opposition for his third and final term in the Oklahoma Legislature.

“I appreciate the opportunity to serve our state in this capacity.  As current Vice Chairman of this committee I will bring a working knowledge to the process,” Myers said.  “Despite the difficult year, we will all work together to balance the budget and prepare Oklahoma for the better days to come.”
