Rep. Brown chief budget advisor for House Democrats

Today (Tuesday, January 18) House Democratic Leader Scott M. Inman appointed Rep. Mike Brown to serve as the Chief Budget Advisor for the House Democratic Caucus during the 2011-2012 legislative sessions. “Rep. Brown is an outstanding public servant who works tirelessly on behalf of Cherokee County and our state”, said Inman, a Del City Democrat.
 
“I choose him to be our Budget Advisor not just because of his energy and strong work ethic, but also because he’s been a small business owner for over 30 years. He’s got a proven track record when it comes to understanding the responsibilities of creating and maintaining a budget, meeting payroll, and weathering difficult economic times. For three decades as a small business owner he has demonstrated the principles of strategic thinking and planning. He will be an invaluable asset to our Caucus as our Chief Budget Advisor.”
 
Brown, a Democrat from Tahlequah has served in leadership for the majority of his tenure in the House of Representatives. He served as an Assistant Floor Leader for two years before being appointed as the Minority Floor Leader for the 52nd Legislature.
 
In his six years as a state legislator he has served as Vice-Chair of the Administrative Rules Committee as well as serving on the Economic Development & Financial Services Committee, the General Government & Transportation Committee, and the Tourism & Recreation Committee. 
 
For the 53rd Legislature he was appointed to the Appropriations & Budget Committee, the A&B Subcommittee on Revenue & Taxation, the Economic Development, Tourism & Financial Services Committee, and the Transportation Committee.
 
“As the Chief Budget Advisor he will analyze revenue reports and closely examine our budget to look for cost-saving measures”, said Leader Inman. “He will keep our Caucus apprised of appropriation and budget measures, and prior to being called to vote he will advise us on proposals and possible alternatives of funding in order to ensure core areas are covered.”
 
Brown is the founder and owner of the Oklahoma Sign Company in Tahlequah. He and his wife, Tammy, have been married for over 35 years and have two children, Brandi Adair and Dustin Brown, and seven grandchildren. He and his wife are strong advocates for children and youth and served as therapeutic foster parents for five years. They attend Cornerstone Fellowship in Tahlequah.
