Greg Treat, former advisor to U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. and Governor-elect Mary Fallin, will seek the Oklahoma State Senate seat held by Todd Lamb. Lamb was elected lieutenant governor on November 2, and will either resign his seat or it will become vacant when he is sworn in as lieutenant governor early next year.
A special election will be held to fill the vacant senate seat that includes parts of Edmond and northwest Oklahoma City. No date has been set for the special election.
Treat said his top priority would be to create a more business friendly environment in Oklahoma to promote economic growth and job creation. He also said he will stand up to the overreaching and job-killing policies of Washington, D.C.
In a press release sent to CapitolBeatOK, Treat said: “Oklahoma has tremendous potential ahead of us but that potential will only be reached if we elect conservative, fiscally responsible legislators. I’m running for state Senate to create the best business environment possible in Oklahoma so we can bring more jobs and better opportunities to our state.”
Treat most recently served as executive director of the Oklahoma Republican Party’s Victory Program, contributing to the GOP sweep of statewide offices as well as GOP gains in the House and Senate.
Before his “victory” work, Treat served as a legislative liaison for U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn of Muskogee, working with state legislators to promote fiscal responsibility and conservative policies at the state level. He served previously as legislative director for then-Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallin.
Treat is an Oklahoma native and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he earned Phi Beta Kappa honors. He and his wife Maressa live in northwest Oklahoma City with their two sons Mason and Cooper.
Also seeking the Republican nomination are Carol Hefner, Oklahoma City attorney Steven Dobbs and Kenny Goza.
