BREAKING NEWS: Long-time Oklahoman reporter Michael McNutt to join Fallin staff

OKLAHOMA CITY – Michael McNutt, longtime State Capitol bureau chief for the Sooner State’s largest newspaper, will soon join Gov. Mary Fallin’s staff, CapitolBeatOK has learned.

A source close to the Fallin administration confirmed McNutt will begin working for the Republican governor next week. McNutt will serve as Fallin’s press secretary and report to Alex Weintz, the chief executive’s communications director.

McNutt has served as bureau chief for The Oklahoman for several years. He recently was moved to the judicial “beat,” and has filed numerous recent stories on local, state and federal court cases.

In a national report earlier this year, The Washington Post blog (“The Fix”)  designated McNutt one of the three best political journalists in Oklahoma.

Replacing McNutt on the Capitol beat is Graham Brewer, formerly a reporter with the eCapitol news service. Brewer began working a few days ago in the pressroom at the Capitol in Oklahoma City.
