City schools should have joined Capitol rally

To the editor:

I was overwhelmed and excited by the turnout for the education rally on Monday, March 31. It was vitally important that Oklahoma teachers demonstrate to the entire Legislature the importance of their cause.
However, I was disappointed that Oklahoma City public schools did not participate in the rally. Engagement of all public schools in this worthwhile event was necessary, because all public schools have been experiencing serious budget reductions – especially Oklahoma City public schools, Oklahoma’s largest and most diverse school district.
I look forward to the day that all public schools in Oklahoma join hands and participate in an event such as the state Capitol rally held earlier today, because there is strength in numbers.

Sincerely, State Rep. Mike Shelton
